Our Story

A Crew That Only Pours Driveways

Weddington Driveway was founded in 2014 by a flatwork foreman who was tired of watching general concrete outfits treat drives as a side item — and pour them like one.

Founder Ray Coley spent twelve years as a lead finisher on residential and light-commercial jobs across Union and south Mecklenburg before hanging his own sign. What he kept seeing was the same pattern: crews poured foundations Monday, patios Tuesday, and squeezed drives in on Friday with whatever mud was left. Cracks showed up the first winter, and homeowners had no idea who to call. Ray's answer was to build a crew that pours drives and only drives — full replacements, extensions, aprons, and new-construction pours from Weddington out to Waxhaw and Marvin. Ten years and more than 400 driveways later, we still do one thing.

How We Work

The Weddington Driveway Standard

Three commitments show up on every job, from a 24-foot single drive to a 90-foot new-construction pour.

  • Base First

Compacted stone in lifts, verified depth, verified compaction. The slab is only as good as what's under it.

  • Real Joints

Control joints saw-cut at the right depth and spacing for your slab dimensions — not eyeballed with a groover after the pour.

  • Documented Cure

Cure compound applied on time, walk-open date and drive-open date on paper. No guessing when you can use your drive.

What We Pour

Driveway Services, Nothing Else

Five driveway services, each priced with a written scope. If it's not a driveway, we'll refer you to a trade partner — we don't pretend to do work we don't do every day.

  • New Concrete Driveways

    New Concrete Driveways

First-time driveway pours on wooded lots, undeveloped land, or vacant frontage — cleared, graded, based, formed, and finished in one coordinated build.

  • Driveway Replacements

    Driveway Replacements

Tear out the cracked, heaved, or spalled slab and repour on a new base — priced with a written scope so you're not guessing what's included.

  • Driveway Extensions

    Driveway Extensions

Widen your existing driveway for a third car, an RV, a trailer, or a boat — dowel-tied to the existing slab so the joint doesn't crack apart.

  • Driveway Aprons

    Driveway Aprons

Apron replacements in the public right-of-way, poured to NCDOT and Union County spec, coordinated with the county for saw-cut and final inspection.

  • New-Construction Driveways

    New-Construction Driveways

Driveway pours for custom-home builds and new subdivisions — scheduled around the GC's framing, final-grade, and utility timelines.

  • Full Cleanup + Cure Guide Wash-out contained, forms broken down, driveway ready for the cure period. You get a printed guide with walk/drive open dates.
  • 5-Year Workmanship Warranty If our work fails from a workmanship defect in the first five years, we repair or replace at no charge. In writing, on your invoice.

Reviews From Weddington-Area Homeowners

Real reviews from real driveways we poured. No testimonial swaps, no purchased stars.

  • ★★★★★
"Ray showed up when he said he would, walked the driveway with us, and had a written quote in our inbox by that night. The old drive came out on a Monday, base went in Tuesday, and they poured Wednesday morning. Two days of cure, and we were parking on it. Cleanest crew I've had at the house, and the driveway looks better than the day we bought the place."

  • ★★★★★
"We needed the driveway widened for a third car and a small trailer. Two other outfits quoted us to pour a new slab next to the old one and let it crack apart on its own. Weddington Driveway dowel-tied the new section into the existing slab, matched the finish, and cut a control joint at the join. Two winters later, no separation, no crack."
    - Chuck PowellWaxhaw, NC — Driveway Extension
  • ★★★★★
"New-construction pour on our custom build. GC brought Ray in and I'm glad he did. Coordinated around the framers, poured on the day promised, and the finish is exactly what my wife wanted. Zero surprises on the invoice."

Why Weddington Driveway

The One-Trade Advantage

Hiring a general concrete outfit for your driveway is like hiring a plumber to wire your kitchen. It might work, but you're not their specialty.

With Weddington Driveway

  • Driveways are 100% of what we pour — every day, every job
  • Written mix design, base spec, and joint plan up front
  • Dedicated finisher on every pour — not rotating labor
  • Weather windows called conservatively, cure plan documented
  • 5-year workmanship warranty on every pour, in writing

With a General Concrete Crew

  • Drives are 20% of their book — squeezed between other trades
  • Verbal scope, no mix design, no joint plan
  • Whoever is on the crew that day, doing whatever the foreman says
  • Poured through weather to keep the schedule, cracked by month six
  • 'Standard warranty' — meaning nothing in writing

Driveway Questions

What Weddington Homeowners Ask Us

Every driveway question we've been asked in the last year. If yours isn't here, call and ask.

How thick should a residential concrete driveway be in Weddington?

We pour 4 inches for standard passenger vehicles and 5 inches for anything that will see a truck, RV, or trailer. On soft or fill soil we go to 5 inches minimum. Every proposal calls out the slab thickness so you can compare bids directly.

What PSI mix do you use?

4000 PSI air-entrained mix is standard for driveways in Union County — handles freeze-thaw cycles and heavier loads. On new-construction pours we spec 4500 PSI. We don't use 3000 PSI on drives, even when a supplier offers it cheap.

How long before I can park on the new drive?

Foot traffic after 24 hours. Passenger vehicles after 7 days. Heavy vehicles (trucks, RVs, moving vans) after 28 days. Cold-weather pours may push these dates — your written cure guide will list the exact open dates for your slab.

Do you tear out and replace, or can you overlay?

For cracked, spalled, or heaved drives we tear out and repour. Overlays fail within a season when the substrate is unsound — we would rather decline the work than sign a patch that will come loose. If your slab is structurally solid and only cosmetic, we'll tell you an overlay is a valid option and refer you accordingly.

Do I need a permit for a driveway in Weddington or Union County?

New driveways connecting to a public street usually need a driveway permit through Union County or NCDOT depending on the road. Apron replacements to existing drives often don't. We handle the paperwork on jobs that require it and we'll tell you up front which category your job falls into.

Can you widen my existing driveway without cracks at the joint?

Yes — we dowel-tie the new section into the existing slab with #4 rebar at 12-inch spacing and cut a control joint at the join. That transfers load between the slabs and keeps them moving together. Standard butt joints without dowels are what causes the separation cracks people see on cheap extensions.

What's the workmanship warranty?

5 years, in writing, on every driveway we pour. Covers workmanship defects — bad joints, base failure, finish problems. Doesn't cover damage from vehicles heavier than the slab spec, tree root heave, or acts of God. The warranty details are printed on your final invoice.
